scarlet threads apron {giveaway}

(This giveaway is closed.) Oh hey. It’s me! This photo is evidence as to why I am a food, not fashion, blogger as I get all awkward and stuff when I have my picture taken. For example, what am I doing with my hands? I feel a lot like this guy. Also I have a wicked case of photo pose-induced head tiltage that cannot be stopped. I do like my pink pants, though.

Anyways… that’s not what I came here to talk with you about today. Let’s talk about aprons, shall we? The reason I took that photo up there is because I’m wearing an apron. Duh. But not just any apron! I’m wearing an apron from the lovely and amazing Scarlet Threads. This is hands-down my favorite apron to wear when I’m baking up a storm in the kitchen (because, if you’re anything like me, half the ingredients land on you and your clothes). I love it not only because it’s cute and functional — I mean, look how I’m rocking that pocket! — but also because of who made it for me and what the company is all about.

In case you haven’t heard about Scarlet Threads before, they are a self-proclaimed compassionate boutique, meaning they sell products designed and created by talented seamstresses in rural Asia and Uganda. And by products, I mean beautiful aprons, jewelry, accessories, even stuff for the little ones — all fairly traded and sweatshop-free. Their goal is to empower rural women through employment in hopes of generating work, dignity and beauty for them. So when you buy, say, an apron from them, not only do the women receive a fair wage for their creations, they also receive five percent of profits from the company. And another five percent of each sale goes to development projects helping impoverished families in local villages. You can learn more about what Scarlet Threads is all about here.

So, since I love this company and I love you all, it only makes sense for me to gift to one of you an apron from Scarlet Threads. I’m giving away to one random reader this adorable Eleanor apron (above — click on the photo to see a larger picture). I mean seriously, is that not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen? According to the website it was designed with the help of a grandma channeling the 1930s when aprons were the in thing. Though, I happened to think they’re still pretty fashionable (see above, minus awkward me).

Here’s the giveaway rundown. To enter, leave a comment below answering the following question: My favorite thing to bake is _______ ?

Extra entries:
1. Follow Girl Versus Dough on Twitter. Tell me in a separate comment that you did so (or that you already do).
2. Follow Girl Versus Dough on Pinterest. Tell me in a separate comment that you did so (or that you already do).

(You can also like Girl Versus Dough on Facebook for brownie points if you want, but that doesn’t count as an entry.)

And that’s it! Contest ends on Sunday, February 24 at 11:59 p.m. CST. Winner will be announced Monday, February 25.

And as an extra cherry on top, Scarlet Threads is offering GVD readers a 20 percent discount to anything in their shop! Uh huh. Use code “car20″ in the checkout.

Happy giveaway!

Update: Elaine is our winner. Thanks for playing, everyone!

P.S. I was not given this apron or compensated in any way by Scarlet Threads for this giveaway. I’m doing this because I heart you and I heart them and who doesn’t want a pretty apron? Photos of Eleanor apron courtesy of Scarlet Threads.

Love the apron! And I was cracking up at that clip, so true. Hmm..very tricky question to answer, but based on what I make the most often, I’d have to say either quick breads or muffins.

Adorable! I don’t think you look awkward at all, btw. My favorite thing to bake? Probably some sort of chocolate chip cookies for my kids. But, a nice bundt cake of some sort would be a close second. I just love bundts!

My favorite thing to bake is whatever I’m baking at that moment. Soon I know I’ll be eating it.

I LOVE the apron! My favorite thing to bake (although I hardly ever do it) is yeasty breads – pizza dough, wheat bread, sourdough, rolls, whatever. I love the smell in the house and the fresh bread out of the oven with butter!

I’ve been rocking biscuits lately. My freezer is *full* of them. Blue cheese biscuits, cracked pepper, Cajun. There’s something so soothing about mixing up a big bowl (with your hands of course) after a rough or stressful day. Who needs a pastry blender?!
