Tis the season to give and get gifts in Mason jars! I, for one, am completely on board with this undying trend. It’s been a constant source of inspiration for me, especially around the holiday season when I am often stumped on what to get for friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, etc. The jar becomes my BFF, and I fill it with all sorts of goodies from cookie mix to homemade dressing to roasted nuts.
So if, like me, you are a fan of the edible gift in jar form, let this roundup of 10 easy DIY gift jar recipes be your guide this holiday season. Or, send it to someone as a hint for a gift idea for you (I mean, I would love it if someone gifted me a jar of my own peppermint brownie mix, TBH). I’ve included ideas on how to package each idea, too, so all you need to do is measure, pack, and gift away. MERRY MERRY.
First up: Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookies with Sea Salt. I just had to retype that recipe title three times to get all of that goodness in there — caramel bits, coconut flakes, chocolate chips, sea salt, all in a cookie. WORD.
How to package it: Measure out a HALF BATCH of cookie ingredients (to make 1 dozen cookies). Combine the flour, baking soda and salt called for in the recipe. In a (at least) 1-liter size resealable jar, add the flour mixture, then the sugar, then the brown sugar, then the chocolate chips, caramel bits and toasted coconut flakes. Top with a small sachet/bag of sea salt. Attach recipe ingredients/directions to the jar.
Creamy Avocado Cilantro Sauce, a.k.a., dressing/dip heaven. It’s best to make this dip right before gifting it, as it only lasts about four days before losing its delectable flavor. Oh, and make extra for yourself. Trust — it’s necessary.
How to package it: Spoon sauce into a 1 1/2 to 2-cup size resealable jar. Attach recipe ingredients and “how to store” notes to the jar.
Flaky, Fluffy Southern Buttermilk Biscuits. We bought a jar of biscuit mix from a place in Asheville during our trip there and it was the best thing ever. People love biscuits, and even better, premade biscuit mix in a jar.
How to package it: Combine all ingredients (including grated/cubed butter) in a bowl, then transfer to a (at least) 1-liter size resealable jar. Attach recipe ingredients/directions to the jar (and remind your recipient to keep it refrigerated so the butter stays cold!).

How to package it: Make the spiced nuts recipe. Once it’s fully cooled, divide the mix among several resealable jars (size depends on how many jars you want to give as gifts). Attach ingredients and “how to store” notes to the jar(s). Bonus: include an extra container of homemade Moroccan spice for funsies.
Sweet and Salty Sesame Cookies! They’re part cracker, part cookie, with a little crunch and visual appeal from the sesame seeds. Any sweet tooth or salty snacker will love these in gift jar form.
How to package it: Combine the flours, sugar and salt called for in the recipe. In a 1-quart resealable jar, add the flour mixture. Top with a sachet/bag of mixed black and white sesame seeds. Attach recipe ingredients/directions to the jar.
Oh my lans, these brownies. These Thick and Fudgy Dark Chocolate Peppermint Mocha Brownies. This is, hands down, one of my favorite brownie recipes in the history of brownies (and for me, that’s a long history). Anyone you gift these to in jar form will be a lucky guy/gal.
How to package it: Combine flour, espresso powder and salt called for in the recipe. In a (at least) 1-liter resealable jar, add the flour mixture. Top with the sugar, then the unsweetened baking chocolate (chopped or unchopped), and chocolate chips. Omit the dark chocolate/espresso powder called for to make the chocolate drizzle on top, or attach it to the outside of the jar in a small bag. Attach candy canes to the jar along with recipe ingredients/directions.
Every time I make these Smoked Gouda Cheese Straws for a party or gathering, they are met with rave reviews. Be a hero and gift these to someone you care about this holiday.
How to package it: A few options here. You can either make the straws ahead of time and place in them in a long, tall resealable jar. OR, you can combine all of the ingredients (except the butter and cream), then add them to a 1-quart resealable jar. Attach recipe ingredients/directions to the jar (and remind your recipient to keep it refrigerated because of the cheese!). OR, just mix the dry ingredients called for in the recipe, place them in a resealable jar, and gift it to someone along with a small wheel of smoked gouda cheese. And wine.
I love this Slow Cooker Pear Quince Butter for so many reasons, and one of those reasons is that it makes for a great gift. The recipe makes a hearty batch, too, so give this away to everyone on your list!
How to package it: Divide the butter among as many resealable jars as you desire. Attach recipe ingredients and “how to store” notes to the jar (along with a reminder to your recipient to keep it refrigerated!). An extra vanilla bean attached to the jar would be a nice touch, too.
