anthropologie measuring spoons {giveaway}
Hello my dears!
I’ll be honest — I am really nervous to host my first-ever giveaway. It makes me feel all professional or something, which we all know is not the theme of my adventures here.
But let’s back up. I’m going to tell you a story.
My 24th birthday is in a week and a half. People tell me the transition between 23 and 24 is huge — I don’t believe it. I have a hunch that the moment I turn 24, not much will change. Maybe I’ll have a little more old woman crankiness. Maybe I’ll find a gray hair, or discover another wrinkle on my incessantly furrowed forehead (my default face looks angry, I’m told — trying to work on that one). Whatever might happen to me over the course of the next year, one thing is for sure: I will still love baking, this blog and all of you. Fact.
So, instead of showering myself with gifts to celebrate what I’m considering just another birthday, I’ve decided that I’m going to give YOU a present. Coincidentally, my birthday falls on Mother’s Day this year, so you can call it a Mother’s Day present, if you wish. Either way, it’s for you, because I love you and gifts are fun. Especially when they’re these cute little measuring spoons from Anthropologie (aka THE BEST STORE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD).
So here’s the giveaway rundown. To enter, leave a comment below answering the following question: What is your favorite birthday memory OR What do you love most about your mother? (answering both questions in separate comments still counts as one entry — sorry)
Extra entries:
1. Tweet about the giveaway and attach this link: http://tinyurl.com/6g2vpl5 Tell me in a separate comment that you did so.
2. Share the link above about the giveaway on your Facebook wall and tell me in a separate comment that you did so (while you’re there, become a fan of Girl Versus Dough’s Facebook page!).
And that’s it! Contest ends on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. CST. Winner will be announced Monday, May 2.
Happy giveaway!
Update: Patti J is our winner! Thanks for playing, everyone.
My favorite birthday memory: having a water and shaving cream fight in my backyard (17th birthday)…it was quite epic, and so very messy.
My favorite memory is when I was about 4 and had my birthday at McDonalds. I still remember how good the cake was.
My favorite birthday memory is probably that both this year and last year my boyfriend gave me cards that said “Happy 1st Birthday” and “Happy 2nd Birthday” and on each of them added “With me!” so he gave me cute little kids birthday cards and made them special for us…I hope this is a tradition we continue for a long time 🙂
and also I tweeted about your giveaway! Happy birthday! 24 won’t be that different…I just turned 25 last week and am loving it! mid-twenties baby! woohoo!
AND just added it on facebook…yes I love social networking 🙂
My favorite memory was my 13th birthday we went to florida. I had my first homemade red velvet cake. It was cold and delicious, not to mention unforgettable.
Just FB’d about the giveaway. I love Anthropologie and cute kitchen items!! Happy 24th Birthday.
Today is my birthday, coincidently, and my favorite memory was opening a card where my 4 year old actually signed her name in it 🙂 And you are correct, Anthropologie is the best store in the entire world. Especially the clearance part. I could use these little babies, I just broke my ceramic measuring spoons moving (wink, wink)
Ooooo!!! OooooooOOOOooooOOOO! The cutest ever. Can family enter?! Can I, huh? {I’ll understand if you say no} AND….******Happy Birthday!!!!****** early, my dear!
Oh I get to enter! Super happy dance 🙂 Since I don’t have particularly happy memories of a lot of my birthdays (early January birthdays are tough….we always get the short end of the stick in party options, holiday overload, illness, and blizzards), I’ll tell you about my momma! My favorite thing about my mother is her pep talks! Moms have a special knack for them, but my mom and I are so close, sometimes nothing else will get my chin up but a pep talk from my mom. Does this mean if I win I have to share with her? I never said she taught me to share (still working on that, grrr, lol). Sorry for the novel, love!
I tweeted. {why is it that all sorts of fart jokes are entering my mind when I write that? I think my brother has rubbed off on me…} I didn’t even have any coffee today, promise.
My favorite birthday memory took place on my last (17th) birthday.
My dad, who is by no means an avid baker (he absolutely despises measuring anything!), agreed to make my birthday treat request of a German Chocolate Cake with Coconut Pecan Icing. I had faith in my dad and his abilities, but I won’t deny that I wasn’t a little skeptical of the outcome of the cake. But, the cake turned out absolutely wonderful; my dad did a terrific job! The delicious, made-with-love, to-die-for cake, coupled with the company of my dad, makes for my best birthday memory.

My favorite birthday memory is when I thought I was going to have to cancel my party but instead my friends came over and we sledded and played in the snow.
oh how cute. and just as importantly they look big enough that most likely wouldn’t loose them down the drain &/or mix them in w/ the trash 🙂
b’days were not good growing up so no favorite childhood birthday memories.
happy birthday to you.
What I love most about my mom is how much she loves me!
My mom and I have tried making homemade bread… about 100 times. Thankfully, last time, it worked! It only took 1 million tries and 22 years… Yeast isn’t our thing, but cooking is!
My favorite birthday memory: I was feeling really down in the dumps on my b-day for a myriad of reasons. My friends had planned to take me out the next weekend since everyone was busy with papers and exams. But when they noticed my bad mood, all work was pushed aside and we immediately went out. I was so touched and my spirits immediately shoot up to the sky!
My dad always makes the most fantastic birthday cakes, and one year he made me a 3-D castle. It had ice-cream cone turrets and chocolate mint doors, and I am so sad that we seem to have lost every picture of this amazing cake.

I love how supportive my mom is of me. And my best birthday memory is going with all my friends to Medieval Times.
posted on facebook too:)
My mom would make each of her kids a homemade 2-layer birthday cake and she took requests for the decorating theme….cars, trucks and tractors, flowers and clowns all done in colored icing. She had no professional decorating skills but she took pride in each creation.
My favorite birthday was when I turned 33 (yes, 33!) and my foot was broken in a non-walking cast and 7 of my girl friends came out and surprised me by planting my 10’x50′ garden, from tilling to bringing heirloom seedlings! Being an avid gardener in a huge pickle, this was an amazing birthday!
My favorite birthday memory was my 30th when my husband surprised me with a last minute trip to Vegas to see my favorite band!
My favorite birthday memory is a beautiful aquamarine ring that my mother bought for me one year. I was so excited!

My favorite birthday is probably my most recent one. My wonderful man friend, who struggles with giving gifts and holidays, came up with something absolutely perfect. He took me to a sushi cooking class. It was amazing!
I had the honor and privilege to spend my very first Mother’s Day in the hospital because I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl two days before. That moment has changed my life in ways that only a mother can imagine. The joy and pride one has for her children is indescribable. I wouldn’t change any moment of it. I love you with all my heart and soul and I can’t wait to spend this Mother’s Day with you. Just sayin’……. 🙂
Way back in 6th grade, my birthday happened to be while I was at Outdoor School (not sure if other areas do ourdoor school too). It was great, surrounded by all of my friends, doing a bunch of fun outdoor activites.
on my 17th birthday my three best friends blindfolded me and drove me to a pond in the middle of a field of tall grasses. we had a picnic and when the sun went down we played with sparklers. it was simple and beautiful. the best part is that i had no idea the whole time that i was only about 2 minutes away from my house. i didnt even recognize the place!
My best birthday memory was when my mom made me a cake for my golden birthday when I was little. The cake was beautiful, and in the shape of a 3D teapot and each guest was sent home with an edible cup and saucer made of cake and icing. It was so beautiful and must have taken forever!
My favorite birthday memory was the surprise party my parents’ threw for me for my 14th birthday> I was totally surprised and it was so much fun. My family was moving to another state a month later so it was great to have that special time with my girlfriends!
My favorite birthday memory and my favorite thing about my mom are one in the same. I don’t really like sweets, and especially didn’t when I was little. So when I was ten I told my mom that I wanted a macaroni and cheese cake. Somehow she created the most beautiful and delicious two layer, macaroni and cheese cake the world has ever seen. I felt like the most special child in the world.
I lost my mother in March of last year. The thing that I loved most about my mother was her hands. They could fix anything, from broken plates to sore muscles and everything in between. They weren’t smooth, they were rough from years of working hard. I really miss my mother.
My best b’day was a b’day which I celebrated with my family just before my marriage…I think I must have cut 6 cakes..and all came into a very big surprises…It was a best b’day my brother had planned for me…:)
I love that my mother is there no matter what. I treated her awful when I was a teen but now that I am older we are much closer and is a big help with my daughter.
Can I combine the two? My mom is awesome, but I always have to brag about her birthday cakes. She always indulged my requests–a Batman cake when I was three, a dinosaur cake when I was 5 (which turned out to be a volcano with flowing lava), and my absolute favorite, the Mayan Temple Cake. I simply asked for a square tiered cake, and my mom ran with the idea and made it into a Mayan Temple, complete with marzipan skulls of the sacrificial victims and fake blood. SO GOOD. Oh yeah, and my mom always made cakes from scratch . . . to this day she’s one of the best cake-bakers I know (I do pie and bread instead of trying to compete).
Cute spoons! I used to not like birthdays so much, but the past few years have totally changed that! A favorite birthday memory has to be this past August when I turned 23… I had just started my dream job and my friends completely surprised me with dinner and a chocolate cake and lots of love.
There are 2 things I love most about my mother. One: I love that I can really consider her (and my dad too) among my dearest of friends. Much more than just a parent, but actually a friend. Two: I love that I can see little parts of her in me as I continue to get older – the way my cheeks look when I smile, my hyper-organization skills, etc. Love her!
My favorite birthday was when my parents converted an old changing table into a barbie house complete with wallpaper, carpet, and furniture. I was 5, and there’s a great picture of me with my hands on my cheeks and my mouth and eyes open wide in awe.
My favourite birthday memory was, when, four years ago, me and my best friend, who happens to have her birthday on the same day as I, took a one-day-trip to London to celebrate our 23rd birthday. Living in different cities in Germany and wanting to spend our birthday together, we figured why not (do something crazy and) fly to London and meet there. So we did and we had the best 24-hour-London-birthday-experience ever! 🙂
My favorite birthday memory has to be my 7th birthday. I don’t remenber much about this party, but I have seen pictures and let me tell you, my mom is sure creative. She painted a Little Mermaid mural! Who paints a mural for a kid’s birthday?! It was gorgeous, and I can’t wait to do the same for my kids [or have her do it, haha]
