girl versus dough turns four {giveaway}
(This giveaway is closed.) I cannot believe that this week (tomorrow, to be precise) marks the four-year birthday/anniversary/blogiversary/blogobirthday (?) of this here blog.
So much has happened between then and now, it’s insane. When I first started I had no idea what I was doing, how to bake a loaf of bread, how to wield a camera or what this bloggy business had in store for me. There have been new jobs, new homes, a new kitten, a lot of kitchen failures (and successes), some sweat, some tears, some memories made and friendships built. In four years this blog has gone from a fun little hobby to a full-fledged career that I love.
Like I said, insane.
And awesome.
Now is when I get sappy and tell you that I couldn’t have gotten to this moment in this space without you guys. But I’m totally serious. There have been several times when I’ve wondered why I’m even doing this whole ding-dang thing, if it’s even worth it, getting ready to throw in the towel — but then I remember my readers, my blogging friends, the food blog community, all of you who inspire me. And I remember that this space is incredibly special to me and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
I wish I could meet you all in person and give you big ol’ bear hugs and tell you how much I love you (in the least creepy way possible). But instead, I shall give you a gift. Actually, several gifts. Because what says “thank you for being here and for being awesome and for putting up with my ramblings and my weirdness and for trying my recipes and liking them, really really liking them” than a giveaway of gifts, amiright??
So, my people, here is what one of you will receive:
One copy of Luisa Weiss’s memoir, “My Berlin Kitchen,” in paperback. The famous blogger behind The Wednesday Chef chronicles a year of her life in and out of the kitchen and letmetellyou, from the few pages I’ve read already (I’m the slowest reader in the universe), it is good reads. Plus, this is the fancy schmancy new paperback version, which if you’re me and you like to bend your books back when you read (thereby utterly destroying them but with love, such love), is pretty neat. I plan to finish the book this fall snuggled in a sweater blanket by the fire drinking copious cups of coffee/hot chocolate (yes, I’m dreaming of fall already. Don’t hate).
One full “Grains of Discovery” kit from Bob’s Red Mill. I’ll be telling you lots more about this new lineup next month (oooo, foreshadowing), but for now, wouldn’t it be fun to get a whole box full of neat-o grains like farro, quinoa, amaranth and chia? If you’re a weirdo foodie like me, you’ll think so. It’s gettin’ all sorts of grains up in our kitchen right now thanks to this kit, and one of you lucky ducks will get a chance to experiment with them, too.
One $50 gift card to Williams-Sonoma. Not going to lie, it’s going to be REAL tough for me to give this one up. But I like you, so I’ll get over it. Nab this baby and you’ll be able to buy things like this pretty lil’ artisan loaf pan, or this set of restaurant-style mixing bowls, or this Le Creuset casserole dish, or… OK, OK, you get the idea.
Here’s the giveaway rundown:
To enter, leave a comment below sharing one thing you’re looking forward to this fall (really, I’m just very excited about the upcoming season and I need someone else to be excited with me).
And that’s it! Contest ends on Sunday, September 1 at 11:59 p.m. CST (giveaway is open to U.S. residents only). Winner will be announced Monday, September 2.
Update: Sarah Grace is our winner. Thanks for playing, everyone!
Good luck, everyone! Oh, and for real, thanks for being here, you guys. You’re just so great. OK, I’m done being sappy. For now.
Disclosure: I was provided with a copy of “The Wednesday Chef” from Penguin Books and a full “Grains of Discovery” kit from Bob’s Red Mill. I am providing the Williams-Sonoma gift card of my own accord. All opinions are my own.

Fall is my utmost favorite season. Everything about it is dreamy. I’m looking forward to getting back to baking, which isn’t so appealing in the hot summer weather. And football, apple cider, pumpkin everything, cozy sweaters, and a lot more!
I love Fall … I was born in September so maybe that’s why I love walking in the woods looking for Mushrooms and making all kinds of Soups and breads. It a quiet time of the year where I live on a Northern Lake and all of the City Folk have left to their jobs making it peaceful. I love to try new things and bake and read. I am looking forward to Fall.
I’m looking forward to sweaters, scarves and boots!
One thing? That’s impossible. Thick sweaters. Fire pit nights. Scrunching through crisp leaves. Heartbreakingly beautiful leaf color and deep blue skies. Pumpkins. Halloween. Slippers. Extra blankets. Jeans. (I miss my jeans!!!!)
And whoa, does that Bob’s Red Mill box look amazing! I’ve seen a few of those packages in the stores, but all of them together makes my cook’s heart beat like crazy. So much exploring and discovery in there!

Congrats on your blogiversary, YAY!!! Something I’m looking forward to this fall…well, to be honest I’d rather hold onto summer and having our kids at home just a bit longer, but I’m afraid that’s not in the cards. So let’s go with…all things pumpkin and apple and warmly spiced!
Thanksgiving! One of my two favorite holidays (along with Easter). It’s all about food, family and football. And a nice long 4-day weekend.
I am excited for a brisk Saturday morning hike with my dog (she likes to chase blowing leaves) – then i can eat a whole quiche without feeling so guilty!
I am looking forward to making cold weather stews; such as stuffed pepper, sausage and gnocchi, Italian weeding and corn with andouille
I am looking forward to the fresh apples so I can make some pies and turnovers! I also like to can apples. My favorite thing about fall however is the candy pumpkins! They are the best! I think that is what I am most excited about!
I am excited for my fall garden!

Part of me wants fall to begin because it will be the end of this packed, crazy summer. But then I remember how much I love fall, the perfect weather, the cute jackets, the baking and cooking, the persimmons and huckleberries. Fall is without a doubt my favorite season.
I don’t have anything in particular…
Truthfully, because I am a huge nerd, this fall I am looking forward to the release of the third book in Veronica Roth’s trashy (yet oddly enthralling) trilogy: ALLEGIANT. Double excitement: It’s coming out ON MY BIRTHDAY, Oct 22!
I’m looking forward to my apartment cooling off enough for me to turn on my oven again!
Can’t wait for the heavy rains with thunderstorms at night, dark brown boots and soft and cozy trench coat, gold leaves, hot bergamot tea, baked apple and pumpkin pies, Thanksgiving dinner, leftovers from that great dinner the morning after :-), crispy wind, rain again. thunderstorms. LOVE fall!
So basically I’d go with rain with thunderstorms, if I have to pick one.

Squash. I have an obsession with squash, and when I think fall, I think of all the recipes I could be cooking. Plus, and this is geeky, but my husband and I were recently married, and I’m sort of looking forward to snuggling next to him with a good book when it’s cold out.
I am looking forward to some SEC Football!
Football and “football food”, especially hot wings

I am looking forward to Michigan apples this fall!
I am looking forward to pumpkin flavored everything!
Fall is my favorite time of the year. Number one favorite? The smell. That cinnamon-y, brown sugar-y, the-one-you-can’t-get-without-making-pumpkin-pie smell. It’s warm. Everything about fall is warm- not hot like the summer, but warm like orange and brown, and scarves, and ovens (because I haven’t been able to use it all summer). And pie. Bread. I have just started reading your blog, and i’m on it. I bake bread at home when time allows, but not goooood bread. You are going to become my work brownie. I feel bad reading your blog at work, but I can’t help it. Like the brownie that i feel bad eating, but simply. can’t. help. it.
Also, you have brought up something i’m very passionate about- fall. I bake. I try to bake. I always have to take a hiatus because I live in Arizona, and using your oven when it is 110 degrees outside just isn’ an option. For that reason, fall is special to me.
Thank you for being witty, and funny, and inspiring me to bake more bread. Im going to do it. Congrats on your anniversary.
Happy blogiversary, my friend!! Congrats, and here’s to an amazing 4 years (and many more) ahead of you 🙂
I cannot wait for all things pumpkin!!! I’m forcing myself to rein it in til after Labor Day, then it’s pumpkin madness over here.

Cool weather! I’m so over the heat.
I am looking forward to the changing of the leaves…here in the mountains, it is always beautiful! I am also looking forward to nippy weather, apples and pumpkins to make breads, and enjoying life!
I’m looking forward to strapping my roller-blades on, and trying to learn (erm…for about the 6th time) how to whiz down the sidewalk, through the lovely autumn air! Fingers crossed my humorously pathetic coordination finally takes a backseat.
looking forward to cooler weather
Apples…apples…apples! Oh and pumpkins! I love baking in the fall!
The best thing about fall is pumpkin madness…carving, souping, smashing, pie making…yum!
There are some awesome fall festivals here in SW Pennsylvania and I look forward to roaming through the food and craft booths with my daughters. It’s a fall tradition for us…can’t wait!!

What isn’t to love about fall? Apples, pumpkins, root vegetables, a chill in the air, colors, spices, the start of boot season!, kids laughter, sweaters, caramel apples, pumpkin patches, apple cider doughnuts, farmers markets, and while I’m ashamed to admit it….candy corn!
I’m going to be SO unoriginal here, but I have no choice: pumpkin, baby. I have 7 cans already waiting to be used. Also sweaters. And hot chocolate. And blankets. And hay rides (is that a Southern thing?). Stopping now. But happy fourth birthday, Girl Versus Dough!
I’m looking forward to cooler weather, and an excuse to break out the hot chocolate.

Congrats on 4 years!!
I’m looking forward to the cooler weather so I can spend more time baking in the kitchen without melting! 🙂
I’m looking forward too 2 things! One is HARVEST! Growing up in a farm family harvest is a time where as a family we ban together and help where’s needed; from actually helping in the field, bringing dinner to the field, or even little a little thing like calling the elevator for hours they are open! Another thing I LOVE about fall is I will be marrying my best friend! Not only is fall my favorite holiday, but it now has an even special meaning as 2 farm families become 1 and whether we are in the field or not, we stop what we are doing and celebrate. Between the colors, changing leaves, Friday night football, bonfires, pumpkin decorating, and cooking a meal to bring everyone together at the end of fall for another changing holiday every day makes me wake up with a smile!
Apple picking!
The best thing about fall are the leaf colors, and that’s about it for me. I am totally and completely a summer, sun worshipper. Knowing summer is coming to an end makes me want to cry.
With Fall being my favorite time of the year it is so hard to think of just one, but …… the crisp cool mornings with a hot cup of coffee and warm homemade bread.
Looking forward to pumpkin-flavored things!

Pumpkin bagels and lattes!!

Fall is gumbo weather and baking weather, and when I love the smells coming from my kitchen.
Love love love the crisp air of fall,
Beauty of it ALL, the comfy flannel shirts, the snuggling
Fall encourages us to partake in. The sweet smell of
The bales of hay we sit on for the hayride/weenie roast.
The feeling that the season of everyone being thankful for
All the blessings that have been bestowed upon us,
No matter how worthy or unworthy we are. Burning candles and
Having an excuse to get into my baking and giving my wares
To those in need or perhaps who just need to know someone cared and
Thought of them today. Did I mention that I LOVE, LOVE
LOVE FALL? Oh and the fact that pumpkin flavored
Everything is now available !!!!!! Love it!!!!

I am looking forward to apple cider being in stores again so I can make the apple cider caramels in the Smitten Kitchen Cookbook! Also, I love having an excuse to make things with pumpkin and spice, as I love both dearly.
I just want it to be cold/cool. August has been burning me up and July wasn’t even this hot.
I’m excited to make some pumpkin and apple pies!
My four year blogiversary is this Thursday! I’m excited for pumpkins and apples this fall. And apple picking!
I am looking forward to wear boots and eating everything that has to do with pumpkin.
I look forward to the crisp smell in the air and of playing in the leaves that had been raked in a pile.
Woo hoo!!!! Thank you SOOOOOO much! You are awesome 🙂
