scarlet threads apron {giveaway}
(This giveaway is closed.) Oh hey. It’s me! This photo is evidence as to why I am a food, not fashion, blogger as I get all awkward and stuff when I have my picture taken. For example, what am I doing with my hands? I feel a lot like this guy. Also I have a wicked case of photo pose-induced head tiltage that cannot be stopped. I do like my pink pants, though.
Anyways… that’s not what I came here to talk with you about today. Let’s talk about aprons, shall we? The reason I took that photo up there is because I’m wearing an apron. Duh. But not just any apron! I’m wearing an apron from the lovely and amazing Scarlet Threads. This is hands-down my favorite apron to wear when I’m baking up a storm in the kitchen (because, if you’re anything like me, half the ingredients land on you and your clothes). I love it not only because it’s cute and functional — I mean, look how I’m rocking that pocket! — but also because of who made it for me and what the company is all about.
In case you haven’t heard about Scarlet Threads before, they are a self-proclaimed compassionate boutique, meaning they sell products designed and created by talented seamstresses in rural Asia and Uganda. And by products, I mean beautiful aprons, jewelry, accessories, even stuff for the little ones — all fairly traded and sweatshop-free. Their goal is to empower rural women through employment in hopes of generating work, dignity and beauty for them. So when you buy, say, an apron from them, not only do the women receive a fair wage for their creations, they also receive five percent of profits from the company. And another five percent of each sale goes to development projects helping impoverished families in local villages. You can learn more about what Scarlet Threads is all about here.
So, since I love this company and I love you all, it only makes sense for me to gift to one of you an apron from Scarlet Threads. I’m giving away to one random reader this adorable Eleanor apron (above — click on the photo to see a larger picture). I mean seriously, is that not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen? According to the website it was designed with the help of a grandma channeling the 1930s when aprons were the in thing. Though, I happened to think they’re still pretty fashionable (see above, minus awkward me).

Love the apron! And I was cracking up at that clip, so true. Hmm..very tricky question to answer, but based on what I make the most often, I’d have to say either quick breads or muffins.

Adorable! I don’t think you look awkward at all, btw. My favorite thing to bake? Probably some sort of chocolate chip cookies for my kids. But, a nice bundt cake of some sort would be a close second. I just love bundts!

Love the apron! I love to bake pretty much anything-but would love to make really good crusty bread!
My favorite thing to bake is whatever I’m baking at that moment. Soon I know I’ll be eating it.
I LOVE the apron! My favorite thing to bake (although I hardly ever do it) is yeasty breads – pizza dough, wheat bread, sourdough, rolls, whatever. I love the smell in the house and the fresh bread out of the oven with butter!
I’ve been rocking biscuits lately. My freezer is *full* of them. Blue cheese biscuits, cracked pepper, Cajun. There’s something so soothing about mixing up a big bowl (with your hands of course) after a rough or stressful day. Who needs a pastry blender?!
Love the apron! They are not old fashioned at all but cute and practical! My favorite thing to bake would be cookies or scones.
I love all kinds of baking, but my favorite thing to bake is biscuits!! Made some cheddar dill ones last night!

My favourite thing to bake is… bread!
I find the whole process so therapeutic and satisfying. I love dough changing texture from rough to silky as I knead it, I love coming back to find it risen and happy, and I die for the smell of fresh bread coming out of the oven.
p.s. Awesome giveaway!

I love baking bread! The sky’s the limit! Last night I made something with a dry Kashi 7 whole grain pilaf mix that I put in my blender (no food processor ;( ) and ground up to use as about 1/3 of my flour. I added sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, walnuts, and part wheat flour. Love the smell of baking bread in the house. What could be better? We ate fresh slices with butter about 11:15 last night. Simple Pleasures! Yum!
Cookies! Chocolate Chip without the chocolate chips!
Love the apron and the work behind it! I love to bake biscuits. Ham and biscuits on a Saturday morning……..heaven.
I love to bake bread. There is NOTHING better (at least in my opinion) than the smell of bread baking. I think it should be the new candle scent… or maybe not. P.S. What an awesome giveaway. I love that these help support disadvantaged women in underdeveloped countries.
