monte cristo crescent ring
Oh yes. Yes, I did.
See, there is nothing more festive than a food baked into the shape of a wreath. NOTHING, I tell you. So go ahead and make fun of me for getting all up in the holiday spirit — but you’ll be missing out on this magic.
I mean, seriously. Can we just talk about this sweet and savory crescent ring for a second? Can we talk about how it’s insanely easy to make, how the Swiss cheese melts inside the buttery puffed crust and then the salt from the ham and the turkey gets all mixed up in there and it turns into this edible Christmas miracle? Can we talk about it takes only five ingredients to put this together? Can we talk about how you need to make room for this on your holiday table, even if the entire thing has to sit on your dinner plate? That shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Anyschways, as I was saying — you’ve got to make this recipe. It tastes just like the classic Monte Cristo sandwich, which is already amazing and easy to make in itself, but then we bring Pillsbury crescents into the mix and shape it into a wreath and bake it and then top it with powdered sugar and we. are. done. for.
So basically, it’s worth the like two seconds it takes to make this holiday treat. In case I hadn’t already made that perfectly clear.
ALL THE THINGS.
Monte Cristo Crescent Ring
A Girl Versus Dough original
Yields: 6 servings
1 (8-ounce) can Pillsbury Crescent Recipe Creations seamless dough sheet
6 slices Swiss cheese
6 slices deli turkey
6 slices deli ham
powdered sugar, for topping
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or lightly greased parchment paper; set aside.
Unroll seamless dough sheet onto work surface. Top with Swiss cheese slices, leaving a 1/2-inch border all around the edges. Top evenly with turkey and ham slices. From the long end, roll up the dough like a jelly roll and pinch edge to seal. Use a serrated knife to slice log into 12 slices. Arrange slices on prepared baking sheet into a circle, overlapping slightly.
Bake wreath 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and cheese has melted. Cool 5 minutes, then carefully transfer wreath to serving dish. Sprinkle evenly with powdered sugar; serve warm with strawberry or red currant jam on the side, if desired.
