boozy chocolate horchata {giveaway}
TGIT, amiright? I mean, it’s Thursday, which is thisclose to the weekend, so why not raise a glass and toast to almost-weekends, boozy chocolate horchatas and sweet giveaways?
First things first: THESE BEVVIES. They’re rich and chocolate-cinnamony and extra cheers-worthy with the addition of white rum. They’re made with rice milk to give them that classic horchata flavor, and believe me when I tell you that they go down easy. Especially when paired with Christmas cookies. Ahem.
I’ll admit I’m not usually a sweet adult beverage fan — give me a dirty martini or a Manhattan or a G&T and I’m set. But every so often, generally around the holidays, I get the craving — for eggnog, for Christmas-colored Cosmos, for Baileys and coffee and now, for this boozy chocolate horchata situation. In fact, this might be my go-to sweet drink for any and all occasions henceforth. It’s just too good to have just once a year.
And let me clarify this: By “sweet”, I don’t mean like coat your mouth in chocolate sweet (ew, but that’s a thing we’ve all experienced, let’s be real), but more like a rich, creamy, fancy chocolate milk kind of sweet. You know what I mean — where the chocolate is real, and it’s just melted, and there’s a hint of sweetness but also a slight hint of bitter cocoa-ness, too. In this case, there’s also a hint of cinnamon, agave nectar, rice milk and white rum. Combined, it’s pretty much perfection in a cocktail. And in my humble opinion, I think it would make for a great holiday party drink (wink wink).
You know what else would make for a great holiday party drink? These beautiful glasses in which this boozy horchata is shown. They’re from Studio Xaquixe, a company based in Oaxaca, Mexico that creates gorgeous handblown glassware using sustainable materials. These particular glasses are valued at $80 for a set of four and are available at AlwaysMod, a local modern home good purveyor here in the Twin Cities. Like the Joseph Joseph bread bin I showed you a few months ago (also from AlwaysMod), these glasses are not only functional but pretty to look at. Each one is uniquely shaped but perfectly fit for your hand. The only criticism a la my husband — and it’s not really a criticism as much as it is a characteristic — is that they are a little smaller than a typical drinking glass. But that also makes them perfectly cocktail-sized. Win-win.
And guess what? You have a chance to get your hands on them! AlwaysMod is generously gifting one lucky reader a set of 4 Studio Xaquixe glasses in blue — just in time for the holidays! I foresee a lot of boozy chocolate horchata cocktails in beautiful handblown glassware in your future (and in mine, as well).
