boozy maple peanut butter cup milkshakes
Two dessert recipe posts in a row with bourbon in them? UM YES/IS THIS EVEN A QUESTION.
But let me tell you why (as if I need an excuse). Because today is a very special day: the day when we celebrate the upcoming arrival of the one and only Jessica of How Sweet Eats‘ adorable baby (yes, I already know he or she will be adorable. It’s a sixth sense) with a big ol’ virtual baby shower. And what better way to celebrate the queen of all things trashed up-meaning-oh-so-delicious foods than with the classiest (trashiest?) of trashed-up cocktails — that is to say, this mother of a boozy milkshake. WITH BOURBON.
Oh, and maple syrup and peanut butter and peanut butter cups and chocolate ice cream and I’m dead.
I’ve never met Jess in real life but I know just by reading her blog on the regular and drooling/geeking out over I mean perusing oh so gracefully over her new cookbook that we would be fast friends. We both love the same foods — Cheese. Bacon. Peanut Butter. Tacos. Chocolate. Bacon. Pasta. Grilled Cheese. Bacon. With bacon on the side. — and she’s hilarious and I like laughing, so there’s that. She also makes things on her blog that make my heart go pitter-patter (I’m looking at you, cheesy pesto pull-apart bread and bacon pineapple burgers a.k.a. OMGBurgers and anything and everything on this list of holiday cookies) and I really like eating, too, in case you didn’t already know.
So while our BFF status is TBD until we meet IRL (Grandma, I’ll translate for you later) and she’s still got that bun in the oven, I’m making and imbibing bourbon maple peanut butter cup milkshakes over here in her honor. It’s the least I can do.
So here’s the trashed-up situation we have here: Chocolate ice cream (the higher the quality, the better… which totally flies in the face of the whole “trashy” thing but we are classy trashy folk, amiright) is mixed with some ice, creamy peanut butter (you can also use crunchy for texture/funsies), pure maple syrup (again, pure is anti-trashy but necessary because ain’t nobody got time for Aunt Jemima) and the bourbon (I used Maker’s 46 because it is my one true love, but any sweeter/smoother bourbon will do). It all gets blended until smooth and frothy, then poured into two glasses — or one, obnoxiously, as Jessica would say — and topped with all the trash. Whipped cream? Check. Chocolate sauce? Check. Chopped peanut butter cups? YES. Chocolate sprinkles? ALWAYS THE SPRINKLES. I could really keep going (chopped dry-roasted peanuts, peanut butter melted to a smooth drizzle, more maple syrup, BACON, etc. etc.) but I will stop there lest we clog an artery just by reading this.
You can also leave out the bourbon if need be (gasp!) and it will still taste fantastic. But in that case, I highly suggest adding more toppings to compensate.
Happy baby shower, Jess! I hope it is filled with all the happiness and trashed-up-foodiness and sprinkle-iness and sweetness you deserve. I can’t wait for your adorable little one to arrive!

This sounds like the perfect trashed up milkshake for a mother to be (minus the brandy) and one for after work for me (with extra brandy 😉 ). I usually only get vanilla ice cream since it’s so versatile, but this is a great excuse to get some chocolate (like one really needs an excuse!)
This has got to be the best looking four ingredient recipe ever. SO delicious!
