Or, alternately titled, “When Steph Admits to the Interwebs That She Still Plays With Her Food.”

It’s true. I went and made some spiced Thanksgiving pancakes and then dressed them up like a turkey. Because I can.

But seriously — can’t you just see yourself and your family enjoying these festive pancakes for breakfast on Thanksgiving morning? I mean, you could just eat regular old pancakes, or you can spend 2.5 extra seconds making these and it will be like everyone is getting double the turkey that day, for which they will be doubly happy. And thankful. Happyful.

There really isn’t any science to decorating your food in this case, and you can trust me on this because I am the worst cake froster in all the land, but I can make my pancakes look like turkeys. So it has to be easy.

All you need are the pancakes (make some big circles and some smaller ones, too), some carrots, raisins, apple slices and a dash of cinnamon. Place a small pancake on top of a big pancake. Make some eyes with the raisins. Cut the carrots and use them for the beak and the legs/feet. Fan the apple slices above the big pancake to make the feathers, then sprinkle them lightly with cinnamon. Serve.

If you’re not into the spice pancake thing, hey! That’s cool. You can use whatever pancake recipe you fancy. Heck, you can even make these into turkey waffles, if you want. Either way I suggest using Bisquick, because the last thing you want on Thanksgiving — the Day Of Cooking, Baking and Eating — is to start the day off with crummy pancakes, amiright?

Ingredients
  • 2 cups original Bisquick® mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, plus more for sprinkling
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • Apple slices, raisins and carrot sticks for decorating
Directions
  1. In a large bowl, stir together Bisquick, milk, eggs, molasses, cinnamon and ginger until well combined.
  2. Spoon batter onto a hot greased griddle, making six large circle pancakes and six smaller circle pancakes about half the size. Cook until golden, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Place one large pancake on a serving plate; top with one smaller pancake. Decorate pancake with apple slices, raisins and carrot sticks to make a turkey shape (see photo). Sprinkle apple slices lightly with extra cinnamon.
